What is Kelvin's position on this one?
Isn't there a lot of room for variation? Sure seems to me that Hogan maintained a lot of right knee flex as he reached the top of his backswing while Sadlowski almost totally straightens it.

Hogan had a big rear and wore baggy pants, so maybe it didn't look like he let the right knee straighten, but he did, despite what was written in Five Lessons (from Kelvin's article How To Turn Your Hips - Part 3 -The Backswing): www.aroundhawaii.com/lifestyle/health_and_fitness/2011-07-how-to-turn-your-hips-part-3-the-backswing.htmlNot a lot of flex here: Jeff

you can find Hogan doing just about anything if you look hard enough. I don't get the emphasis on this part of a golfers swing (Im not referring to Jeffy, but many many many other coaches feel sooo strongly about this topic).
Straighten the leg to whatever degree you need to allow your hips to turn on an angle (relative to the ground) to create the backswing necessary for the appropriate shot.
Why would anyone have a problem with straightening the leg at all, or too much just doesnt make sense. The knee flexes again in the downswing, soooooooooooo thats the part that is more important! Many of the longest hitters nearly hyperextend the joint to allow for more hip turn and an inward trajectory of the hands.
Do we need pictures of Hogan's knee being straight at 4 (cause I have about 40) to make the principle valid.

The second pic is a good demo of the principle.
